Given the lack of quality CFs around at the moment don’t see why anyone so upset by this
How much do you think we’d have to pay any PL standard regular goal scorer if we signed one? Have a look around not many about

A little perspective is needed.
Leading goal scorers in the Prem.
Salah with 16 goals
Jota with 10 goals
Vardy with 9 goals
Antonio with 8 goals
Mane with 8 goals
Son Hueng- Min 8 goals
Raphina with 8 goals

Top earners
Ronaldo at 36 is on 26 mill a year
Lukaku just under 17 mill a year
Werner 14 mill a year
Aubameyang 13 mill a year
Martial 13 mill a year
Rashford 10 mill a year
Vardy is on $140 k per week. https://bolavip.com/en/amp/soccer/premier-league-highest-paid-players-2020-2021-20201126-0014.html
5.2 million a year is actually pretty good in today’s market.
Not sure what you expect to pay in today’s market and compete at champions league level ffs.

I don’t want to see him play for anyone else (those celebrations would wind me up) and it’s not my money. We’ve spunked, and continue to spunk money on a lot worse than Antonio. Not much to see here really.

Fine by me; just glad to still see him here and not all that expansive.

I have no issue with his weekly wage.
The duration though for someone who's fairly injury prone at 31 seems unwise.

Considering what we paid for him what he has produced and the way he has adapted to a number of roles during his time at the club i dont think there can be too many complaints. The big question of course will surround his long term fitness, but with the right attitude and sensible management he could well play the majority of games in the next couple of seasons. Maybe time to retire from the international scene though. Incidentally if he stays fit i reckon he could still nick 20 goals this season

It may well just be a way of spreading out his wages over that contract length to keep within a wage structure though. He's good for probably at least two-and-a-half of those seasons I'd have thought.

Fine with me. Well deserved and let’s be honest he holds all the cards in negotiation seen as he knows we don’t have a single other senior striker at the club!
If we have had our pants pulled down a little over the wage or contract length then it’s a situation all of the club’s making.

There are people here that hero worshipped Andy carroll and added to the mythology around him during all of the months he didn’t play for us whilst earning stupid wages and pissing it up the wall.
I hope they don’t rock up now to show their dismay at this deal for a player that has been phenomenal value for us.

he contract was gonna expire next summer 2023. What was the rush? What if he gets a career ending injury over the next 6 months like Ogbonna?

This probably means we won't sign another striker until 2025. If Antonio can do it by himself for the last year, why not another 3?

Against a background of crazy wages for footballers, this doesn't look extra crazy.
Injury-prone?
Despite seeming tired at certain points this season, he's looked less fragile and on the edge of an injury.
Perhaps I've imagined it, but maybe the club have a plan for managing his fitness and it's working.
